part# for new machine / asset
01/28/21 at 11:24:42

Are we supposed to have a part number for each piece of equipment we own?
For some reason back in 1997 we entered every machine we had on IN-B.   And since then,  anytime we have purchased a new piece of equipment, vehicle etc we have created an item part number in IN-B.
Are assets supposed to be given an item number in IN-B?

I don't think so.

We have used a part type N because we just follow suit.  That doesn't make sense to me. If you are what would the part type be?

If the answer is  NO i can say I dont think it has hurt anything.  But I think RO-D would have been sufficient.

Thanks
Laura

Evo has a fixed assets module for tracking assets such as machines for depreciation purposes.  You may have entered them as inventory items if you wanted to track the acquisition on a purchase order.  If so, type N is fine but the item class should be pointing to a Capital Equipment account.
