Lifetime License
05/02/03 at 06:02:17

I have to say that I'm a little concerned that with a "lifetime" license that still has to be updated every year that some day I may not be able to update it. I can see that since the current registration method uses an expiration date and that the licensing module only accepts 2-digit years that it would be difficult to provide a true "lifetime" license.

I'd be a little more comfortable if I knew that no matter what happens to DBA that I'll be able to continue using it as long as I want. Does anyone else have this concern? Or is the registration easily enough hacked that any decent programmer could figure it out?

David,

VERY few programmers could do anything with the TAS executable which is where the license is ultimately controlled from.  The progrmmer that wrote TAS writes in assembler language!  Yeah, 010111001.  He is pretty much a mad genius.

So hacking his stuff is REALLY bloody difficult.

Anyone who purchased a lifetime license should email Michael Hart and request a key to unlock the license forever.  I heard once that they were going to do this.  Perhaps if enough people request it it will happen.

I agree!
Maybe If enough of us lifetime users email him then we can have it fixed.

Jeanette,
Do you have to ask for it?  Did David, Tim and I just miss it?

I suspect Jeanette requested it.  Can't hurt to try.

I received the following email after requesting a lifetime license key:

David

This is not possible at this time with the current DBA. If it ever does become available, we will notify you immediately.

Thank you.

Some how I think that they should be able to, if nothing else, issue you 10 years worth of license keys at one time.

This strikes me as a "I don't know how to do it, so the customer must be inconvenienced" issue.

There is a creative solution to this somewhere looking for someone willing to look outside the box.

Like, set the system date of your computer to the day before the license expired before starting DBA, and then change it back ???

Looks like there's been an impact. "By popular demand" I got a license today that's good until 2030.

Way to go people!!!  Grin
