Changes to Windows registry
06/19/03 at 12:24:50

When does DBA update the registry? I presume a new installation does. Would any of the primary (CD) updates do it? How about DBA service packs? ISTS non-subscriber updates?

Anything else I should be aware of in having two separate DBA installations on one server? (One is for testing only and the other is our live data.)

Cyndee,
I did this to create my private test copy of DBA on NT 4:

1. Create a directory on the server at the same level as the directory that is shared for the live DBA.  For me, I use e:\windba for the live share, and e:\testdba for the test share.  In addition, I set the share security on e:\testdba to only allow full access for myself.  This way, I am the only one that can access and use this share.

2. The workstation already maps N: to e:\windba.  I add another map for O: to e:\testdba.

3.  I  copied my Live DBA shortcut and changed it to use o:\dbamfg as the 'Start in' directory.  You also need to make sure that the Target: parameter does not include any directory information (just TP5WDBA.EXE)

4. I then I went to the server and copied everything in e:\windba to e:\testdata.

I wasn't clear enough in my original post  Shocked. What I meant to say was that our live data has some ISTS updates applied. Now I need a DBA-only copy of the program to test a bug fix. (I trust that nothing in the ISTS updates is affecting this problem. In fact, it existed before I heard of ISTS. But, I need to be able to prove it.) So, these would be 2 completely separate installs of DBA, not just 2 sets of data files. Since I can't be in two places at once, we don't exceed our licenses. <g> They would be on separate drives, but share the same operating system & Pervasive.

You can have multiple installations of DBA in different folders, there are no registry settings to worry about.
