W-3 Summary Data
01/25/05 at 07:28:16

Hi,
I printed my W-2's, but I noticed that the W-3 Summary Data totals do not match the totals from the W-2's. They are way off, $100,000.00 just on the state wages. Anyone else see this?

We do not have any problems here. Just double checked.

We are okay here on W-3.  If you have a 401-K (and if your state handles it like mine), state wages are reduced by 401K amount.

I noticed that my W3 totals are correct at the first printing.  I say yes to "print another set?", and the W3 totals are doubled.  Third set, tripled.

So, I guess it is geared for printing by department, so that when all departments are printed you have the correct W3 totals.

Too late to fix for this year but I will make a note for next year.   I do understand what it is doing - it actually makes some degree of sense given the environment the program was originally written in...

When you print W-2, it asks if you want to print another copy.  The program logic incorrectly assumes that each copy is a different division so it adds to the total.  It needs to have an option to ask whether to add to the total.  To get accurate totals, use the summary from the first set.

Or, print to screen, and then you can print and re-print full sets or individual pages to your hearts content. Must be that's why I never saw the wrong W-3 amounts...
