Payroll and Time card data (Read 2176 times)

Posts: 1213 Gender:	Payroll and Time card data 10/23/07 at 14:28:58 Is it possible to import Employee time card data in the form of a text file into the Payroll module? We use a simple card reader time clock to clock hourly employees in and out. The output can be a text file.

Have you received any information on this topic? It seems that it should not be difficult to do. I haven't started working on this yet, but there must be a temporary file that holds the hours and data to import to.

We have abandoned the payroll program until a later time. I am still interested in knowing how this could be done; it is one of the hitches in our plan to switch to EVO Payroll. Our target date now is by the end of 2008.

I had to search a bit to find the program but it is at DE - H - A Import Labor, I wonder if you could set up a dummy work order to upload the hours and then transfer to payroll? Leaving the office for the next week but will try this when I get back.

We use a time clock program (that I wrote actually...) that outputs a printout of hours for each employee and the payroll person then enters the information into Evo. Of course, it would be much better to directly import the data to Evo but I've been lazy. Maybe I'll look into what it would take to get an external program to properly import hours into Evo. The whole overtime thing might be a little tricky. Does everyone use the overtime after 40 hours method or are some of you using anything over 8 hours in a day is overtime? Or any other method? The other catch is needing the ability to enter in holiday pay and things like that. But that could easily be done in Evo after the time data is entered could it not?

Well, I talked to the payroll people here and we're not going to change the way we currently do things. My program already outputs the # of hours worked per employee (via a printable report) and we use the anything over 40 (actually worked) is overtime method so we just use PR-B to enter in hours. It's simple and easy and the payroll person doesn't want to change it.

But if anyone else wants to use a different method:

BKPRTC is the file that time cards are stored in. It's reasonably straight forward. A simple import into that would setup the time keeping and then it's just a PR-K to get the data processed for payroll. The table has a field to designate what is overtime and what is regular pay.

In the list of files with field names that I got off the IS Tech Support site, the BKPRTC file also has a KEY field, which of course I don't see when looking at this file in MB. How do I populate this field when I import? Or do I not need to?

I use Gold Suite and their electronic recording clocks for time keeping. I can export the data including holiday pay and OT hours without problem. I just need a way to import that into the DBA time cards. I think you have given me a good start. Steve

I am back to investigating the use of the payroll-- it looks like this time its a go. Can someone who does importing answer this question? I would think this is a viable method for getting the time data into DBA Payroll.

Or would I have to run some kind of utility to generate this key? Lynn, do you foresee any problems doing it this way?

So that should answer that question. As for whether doing all of this is a good idea I can't say...
