xfer quote to diskette?
09/02/03 at 12:21:01

None of our networked DBA computers have access to the interenet  or email.   And I would like to keep it that way.

Now we have a customer who wants us to email him quotes.

Is there a way to print a quote to a floppy disc and then take that disc to my lone internet computer and  email it to a customer.

Is so, would it be an attachment or in the body of the email?   Would I need to Xfer the quote to a word document or put it in the body of the email?

I am not yet ready to give my quys access to email and the interenet.

Thanks,

If I could list the quote to the screen, and then copy it, and paste it into a Word Doc, then I could easily email.
Unfortunately I don't think one can copy and paste a quote.

Thanks,

I would suggest that the best and easiest manner is to "print" the quote to one of the free PDF writers, or to use a free program called efax, which can save as a pdf-like format (with or without a "viewer" executable) to be sent to your client from the email capabale system.

efax can be downloaded from www.efax.com .  I like this one as it plays quite nicely with DBA.

We use PDF995, available at www.pdf995.com
Someone else on the DBAUser group recommended it and it works great. It will need to be installed on a computer running DBA. Then you can "print" anything to it and it will save it in pdf format. When it asks where you want to save, you can save the document to a floppy, then send it as an email attachment. It is free (with annoying popups. OK if you use it rarely) or license is $9.95 to get rid of the popups. I like it better than efax, because the recipient doesn't need a special viewer. They just use Adobe Acrobat Reader, which they probably already have.

Cyndee,
Thank you so much for suggesting PDF995.   It has worked great.  Especially with DBA quotes!!!

We have been saving  files to diskettes.  Do you know if there is anyway to save it to a CDrom.   I revisited the site and can't find any reference to that.   Also I have fiddle with it a little on my own with no luck.

Have you tried saving a file to a CD.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura,

Do you have a CD burner?  Use the burner software (quite likely Roxio EZ CD Creator or some such) to create the files on the CD.

Yes, I do.  The problem I am having though is:
1.after listing the SO quote to the screen,
2. I choose to print, and then choose the printer PDF994
3...here.... it automatically starts searching for drive A:
I don;t get an option to tell it to go to drive E.

I went to the PDF995 site and redownload and reinstalled.  ( I was thinking there might be an option in one of these that let me set a default to drive E, but I didn't see one)

Thanks so much.   You are such gem, quite an asset to the forum.

xfer quote to CD in PDF format

for future reference:     (printing DBA reports using PDF995)
If you want to print a PDF file to a CD instead of a floppy, you still have to put a floppy in drive A:    If you don't the computer will keep telling you that drive A is empty.
Once you are at the step where you would save it to A, then switch to where you really want to save it. (be sure and rename the file)

Then you can go from there and burn it to a CD.

That is actually a windows issue.  Windows will always try to send you to the last drive (except CD/DVD drives for some reason) that you saved to.

so...Would that explain why my win98 machines keep asking for drive A, but my XP-home does not?

Thanks,
Laura
